So far in 2019, I've been a featured reader at Toronto's Pivot Reading Series, and was part of the issue launch for the latest version of Ottawa online magazine, Ottawater. I also read in Toronto, Sarnia and Ottawa in May and June as part of the celebration of Tamaracks: Canadian Poetry for the 21st Century. I again gave a workshop on ekphrastic poetry for the Ottawa Public Library.
2018 was busy. I was guest poet at the Ottawa Storytellers Stories and Tea event on November 13, 2018 (with Phil Nagy, storyteller), and closed out the year at the Peter F. Yacht Club reading at the Carleton Tavern on December 28. I led two workshops for the Ottawa Public Library: one on Ekphrastic Poetry, and one on "The 'I' of a Poem".
I toured New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in the fall of 2018 with my novella Tower , including readings at
Attic Owl Reading Series in Moncton (with Jo-Anne Elder), at Odd Sundays in Fredericton, at the public libraries in Yarmouth and Lockeport, at the Writers Federation of Nova Scotia in Halifax and at Lexicon Books in Lunenberg. Everywhere except Moncton, I was lucky to read alongside Janet Barkhouse. E. Alex Pierce joined us in Lockeport.
I launched my novella, Tower, on June 30, 2018 at the Manx Pub in Ottawa, with Deborah-Anne Tunney and Cora Sire joining me as co-readers. Then, on September 23, I had the great privilege to be the inaugural reader in the Short Reading Series , at the Lieutenants' Pump, on Elgin Street in Ottawa.
John Buschek, the publisher of my poetry collection (among many other publications over the 20+ year history of BuschekBooks), was inducted in the VerseFest Hall of Honour in March 2018 for his contribution to the Ottawa and national literary scene. With John having closed up shop on the press, books can no longer be purchased through bookstores (online or bricks and mortar) but are still available directly from me.
Other recent readings were as a feature performer at Ottawa's Sawdust Reading Series and as part of the annual Peter F. Yacht Club holiday 'regatta' celebration and reading, both in December 2017.
Following the release of Light-carved Passages, I was an invited feature reader at a number of events in Ottawa, including at VerseFest, Ottawa's international poetry festival.
In 2016, I toured in Ontario and points west, with featured readings in:
New Westminster, Vancouver, Victoria and Salt Spring Island in British Columbia
Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta
my home town of Regina, as well as Saskatoon and Prince Albert in Saskatchewan
Toronto, Kingston, Peterborough and Barrie in Ontario.
Several of my readings and presentations at Ottawa's Tree Reading Series were video-recorded and are available as follows:
